It should come as no surprise that I am a huge fan of the films of George Romero. I would rate his original version of "The Crazies" (1973) as not one of his very best films BUT definitely a solid 70's horror film. One of the things I enjoy about this movie is you can see how Romero was discovering some of the themes he would later expand on in "Dawn of the Dead."
Blue Underground just released the original film on Blu-ray. You can learn more and watch / download the original trailer here.
So, like several other Romero films, "The Crazies" has become yet another remake that is in theaters now...

I have not seen this "re-imagining" but the trailer is pretty damn good (check it out here). There's all sorts of Hollywood promo crap to see over at the official movie website as well.
UPDATE JULY 12, 2010 - I just watched the new version of "The Crazies" this weekend and thought it was very entertaining. It is dark, violent, scary and most-important... FAST PACED. I give it the Colors of the Dark Thumbs Up.
